弦の太さを考える

弦の太さについては、『太いほど音も太いて良い』と思ってました。

実際、スティーヴィー・レイ・ヴォーン(Stevie Ray Vaughan）なんて、半音下げではあるものの.013～というアコギ？みたいな弦で弾いてますし、ジミ・ヘンもボトはファンキーさを出すために軽めだけどトップは「音の太さ優先」で太め（.010）でしたしね。

また、あんまり細い弦よりも、ちょっと太めの弦の方がピッキング・コントロールがしやすいという部分が有ります。

そんなわけで、個人的には太めのゲージが好きで、ストラトでも.011～を基本にしていましたし、ガット・ギターでもヘヴィ・テンションを基本にしてました。。

でも少し前に「テンション緩めの方が左手で音を作りやすい」という内容の記事がクラッシック・ギター雑誌に書いてて、また「弦楽器はレギュラーより少しチューニングを落としたところに美味しい音のポイントが有る」という主張を何かの本で読みました。

で、実際に試してみると...確かにそういう部分も有るんですよね～。

考えてみれば、細いゲージの人（イングウェイとか、ブライアン・メイとか...）の音も悪いわけではないですからね。

特にエレキでは、ピックアップとの相性とかも有りますし、頭ごなしに決めずに、一度先入観なしに良いポイントを探してみないとな...なんて思う今日この頃ですね。
